The fifth carol in this year’s Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was ‘A virgin most gentle’. The Festival was broadcast worldwide on BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service from the candlelit Chapel of Kings College, Cambridge on Christmas Eve. The carol is of particular local interest, having been composed by Andrew Carter, a past pupil of Kibworth Beauchamp Grammar School.

Just a few months after decimalisation, on 17 May 1971, 10cwt of coal was delivered to a customer in Council Street (now Stuart Street), Kibworth Beauchamp. The coal merchants were Bromley Bros. and Sons, who were based at the old Kibworth railway station yard and could be contacted by telephone on Kibworth 407.

I would like to say a big thank you to the management team at Kibworth Golf Club for opening the grounds for the general public to enjoy during these difficult time. It’s been wonderful to appreciate the open space, lovely colours of the trees, sound of the water fountains and to be able to wander with friends, stopping to sup a flask of coffee and have a chat on a bench. The lovely grounds are an asset to Kibworth and a testament to the skills of their grounds team.
