The G7 Summit has recently taken place in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, and we can see how useful it was for moving forwards in dealing with the climate crisis that faces us now, and with vaccines for all to stop the Covid pandemic.

Summer News from Smeeton! With the Chronicle having a well deserved break for July and August, I must offer some dates for your diaries. As you may have realised, we here in Smeeton are always looking for events to bring our village together. We are also delighted to invite those of you from neighbouring villages too.

Interestingly, we have connections to Russian Royalty in Leicestershire. In last month’s Kibworth & District Chronicle, ‘Duggie’s Ramblings’ referred to an obituary, HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

We are undertaking a mammoth task of digitalising the entire Kibworth & District Chronicle back catalogue. The Chronicle has published over 400 editions, since it was founded in April 1978.

The Kibworth (and Surrounding area) Photography Group was set up on Facebook book in November 2020. It was initially set up by Andy Marlow with myself then joining him as admin. The group has successfully had their first meeting in June at Foxton Locks. We took a selection of photos of the locks and surrounding environment using a variety of cameras and phones. The session was followed by a sit down chat to get to know one another better and the types of photography we all like. The group is for anyone interested in photography, no fancy cameras needed. Our next meeting is on July 25th at Brocks Hill Country Park where we will be practising some Macro photography. Followed by pet photography in August. From Monday 12 April all boaters were finally allowed to move. Hire boats could start up again, albeit still with restrictions on numbers and households.

Summer is almost here! With 2020 behind us, the prospect of holidays and even (fingers crossed) foreign travel to sunnier climes is a very real possibility. But, if you are going to enjoy the sun this year it’s still essential to protect your eyes from damaging rays of sunlight. Whilst, of course, still looking fabulous.
