Beryl Tory: a life well-spent

Vera Beryl was born to James William and Vera Emily Weston; a little sister for Maurice, she became known as ‘Beryl’. Growing up to be a fighter in more ways than one - older brothers can do that to you. Beryl was very sporty as a teenager including cycle racing. When she left school she went to work as a seamstress. She continued to make clothes for her family and became very good at many crafts.

Noeleen, born on Christmas Eve 1932, grew up in Cumbria with her siblings. Her father, a farmworker, eventually bought his own farm. She recalled tough winters, long school walks, and digging sheep out of the snow.

We Remember Them

We read recently that Dave Quelch has passed away at home aged 85 years. Dave, together with his wife Jenifer, were landlords of the The Black Horse pub in Foxton and The Bell in Gumley which had quite a lot of cricket memorabilia on the wall. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
