On 13 October our mouths watered in anticipation of Gail Wooliscroft’s demonstration of ‘Decadent Dessert’. The first was Waffle Berry Pudding, with waffles purchased at the supermarket bakery section, because frozen ones are usually made with potato, not good combined with fruit, custard and cream!

Yes.I remember Adlestrop -
The name, because one afternoon
Of heat the express train drew up there
Unwontedly. It was late June.
The steam hissed. Someone cleared his throat.
No one left and no one came
On the bare platform. What I saw
Was Adlestrop - only the name
And willows, willow herb, and grass,
And meadowsweet and haycocks dry,
No whit less still and lonely fair
Than the high cloudlets in the sky.
And for that minute a blackbird sang
Close by, and round him, mistier,
Farther and Farther, all the birds
Of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

Following months of hard work, planning, preparation and rehearsals, Saturday 29 October was certainly a night to remember. Supported by their wonderful family and friends, Kibworth Ladies Choir sang their hearts out whilst telling the story of how the choir has evolved over the past ten years.

At our last meeting we were entertained by one of our very own members, Rhena Sturgess. Rhena has always had a great interest in antiques (perhaps that is why we get on so well!). She has lots of genuine clothes and strange items in her mammoth collection. We were just listening to her introduction when Kathy stood at the door dressed in a First World War Nurses uniform. This originally belonged to Mary Pane who is a distant relative by marriage.

She gave a solo performance at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. She has featured on many programmes including ‘BBC Proms in the Park’, ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ and ‘Songs of Praise’. Leigh has also performed with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic and London Handel Players. She will be supported on the evening by her husband, Stefan Andrusyschyn, playing the keyboard and accordion.
