Schools are back, summer is drawing to a close and there’s been a lot of change at The Well over the last few months.

We are celebrating 25 years of fundraising, during which time the Friends have raised thousands of pounds for different projects for our lovely Church building. Our next fundraiser will be a Jazz Evening with The Fourmasons in St. Wilfrid’s Hall on Friday 26 November at 7.00 pm  Tickets £15 each (available from 1 October) to include supper. Every year I hold a coffee morning at our house to raise funds for Macmillan. We even managed to hold one last year, keeping to all the Covid rules and regulations. In fact, we made a record profit for the charity. So, the details were as follows:

What a great summer we have had here in Smeeton! It started off with ‘Brass on the Grass’, our annual band concert on the allotments. The Oddfellows Brass Band came in force again to entertain us with renditions of music and songs old and new. What a talented band they are! Even the clouds parted and the sun decided to come out to listen. Although this is a free event, the donations raised were for GEMS and came to £650.

My son Ellis passed away on the 12 February this year. Before his funeral was even arranged, a group of his best friends said they intended to honour him, cycling from John O’Groats to Land's End. Ellis worked for Sigma Sports in Oakham. He was a keen cyclist himself, hoping one day to take part in the transplant games.

GEMS Charity & Leicestershire Hospital Charities are seeking to raise 500k to fund a Chemotherapy Treatment Suite Extension at Leicestershire Royal Infirmary. This will increase the number of people receiving live-saving treatment. This article updates you on the great progress on the Fundraising Appeal so far.

GEMS Charity and Leicester Hospitals Charity are teaming up to raise vital funds to expand the chemotherapy suite at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. LRI’s adult cancer treatment services have significantly outgrown their capacity.
