What's going on?

18th April 2022 | What's On

Fabulous to see our local Wombles are visible again. They are cleaning our community parks and the general neighbourhood during the Great British Spring Clean (25 March - 10 April). We live in a lovely place yet still some people, and it is very much a minority, deposit their rubbish just anywhere. There is a lay by on the B6047 which says MOST PEOPLE TAKE THEIR RUBBISH HOME. Our District Churches No.4 - St Peter's, Church Langton

18th April 2022 | Churches

This church, a remarkably tall church, stands proudly on the hill in Church Langton. With its grey ashlar tower it visibly dominates the skyline in almost every direction. Indeed, its perpendicular style of architecture is typical for the area. Parts of the church below the tower date from the late 13th Century. (Imagine this church with a spire atop the tower! Then read on) It really is well worth a visit.

I read with interest the letter sent in last month by Glynn Tunneycliff concerning ‘The Railway Arms’. This prompted me to get in touch as I recently acquired a copy of the Leicester Evening Mail newspaper dated Tuesday October 16th 1962. Illston-on-the-Hill WI

18th April 2022 | Clubs and Societies

Illston- on-the-Hill WI welcomed Holly Norvill to our last meeting. She attempted to get us creative! We made beautiful coasters and plaques. Holly had brought all the gear with her, including flowers, leaves and bits of shrubs. We had to roll out some clay, select what picture we wanted to make, depress the bits into the clay, including some berries which came out beautifully. Then put a mould over our creations, pour on plaster of Paris, leave to dry, remove the outside mould and clay, seal off the disc and paint. What could be easier? Hope you are all still with me. You would be surprised how much of an issue some of us made!
