Many years ago when my partner and I decided to move to South Leicestershire , after living for ten years on the edge of a large city, we faced a number of challenges.

Good news. At the recent Area Contest the ‘Knight and his Princess’ were kind to us and we achieved a creditable fourth place in a field of sixteen bands. This keeps us firmly in the First Section.

On Friday 3March the annual skittles match was held at The Horse and Trumpet in Wigston. Thirty six people took part. The overall winners were the men, narrowly beating the ladies.

Kibworth and District u3a is an organisation that facilitates interest groups and social events for people that are no longer in full time work or have finished raising a family.

It’s been a busy start to the spring running season for Fleckney and Kibworth Running Club.

The trustees of the hall and the library had a successful meeting on the 15 March to discuss progress on the plans for developing the new Kibworth Hub which will incorporate the library and the hall. There is currently a lot of hard work going into writing applications for funds.

Following last month’s article featuring little Florrie, I should just like to say a genuinely heartfelt Thank You to all of those (including cast and crew of Last Minute Theatre) who contributed to our retiring bucket collection after each performance of the Pantomime.

By the time you read this, we will be into our final few rehearsals for A Bunch of Amateurs by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman which will take to the stage on 30/31 March and 1 April.

A new group is starting on Thursday 13 April in St. Wilfrid’s Church Hall to support anyone who has been bereaved or suffered loss.

Your Rotary Club continues to be active, thirty six years after its formation. Many of the current members are founder members and the majority have been members for over 30 years.

Well Spring has sprung, meteorologically speaking at least. The nights are drawing out and the clocks go forward in a couple of weeks. We’re starting to see the signs of new life as snowdrops, crocus and daffodils pop up and our garden birds start checking out bird boxes for a suitable place to build a nest.

On Sunday 2 April from 2-5pm, a fabulous spring garden with hosts of daffodils opens at Stoke Albany House, Desborough Road, Stoke Albany, Market Harborough, LE16 8PT.

The parish council’s monthly public meeting on 2 February was held in the Studio at the Kibworth Grammar School Hall. Cllr. Feltham reported the post required for mounting the vehicle-activated sign on Albert Street is due to be installed at the end of March. He and the clerk are meeting with the Community Speed Watch team on 3 February for them to carry out a risk assessment of the three chosen locations ready for the volunteers to measure speeds over two weeks starting on 22 April.

Once again we are looking forward to welcoming you into the calving and lambing sheds at our annual open day. This is on Saturday 25 March at Binleys Bridge Farm, Debdale Lane, Smeeton Westerby, LE8 0QD. Come down to the farm between 11am – 5pm to see the cows calving and sheep lambing. We will hopefully have some pigs for you to see too.
