Illston-on-the-hill WI April 23

The WI

Illston on the Hill WI have arranged to plant a flowering tree in the church yard in memory of our dear friend Mavis Green who died on 19 January.

Mavis was one of our very long standing members and it was a terrible shock to us all as she was in really good form only the week before. Mavis had been a member for over 30 years and served on the committee for many of those.  Rest in peace dear friend.

Unfortunately due to the sudden snowfall, we had to cancel our fashion show. Hopefully we can rearrange this for another date.

The Annual Council Meeting took place at Leicester Grammar School on Saturday 18 March when all the Leicestershire and Rutland Federation of WIs get together.

I will not go into detail as I am sure our friend Pat at Kibworth WI will do a much better job than me, so over to you Pat.

We entertained a total of seven other WIs from our High Leicestershire Group at the end of March. It was so good to get together with so many ladies we had not seen for a while. We enjoyed a lovely supper and were entertained by a Barbers Shop Choir. A good evening was had by all.

We are now looking forward to our next meeting when we will be learning about the ‘Life of a Tiller Girl’.
