Earlier in the year, I wrote an article for the Kibworth & District Chronicle to mark Mum and Dad’s platinum wedding anniversary (March edition Issue 420).  A few months later – with great sadness, but gratitude for two long, happy and well-lived lives – I find myself writing their obituaries. 

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Betty Bateman, passed away on 17 April 2020 at the age of 94. Her funeral took place on Friday 24 April at Gedling Crematorium (Nottinghamshire) on a beautifully warm and sunny afternoon.

We are sad to hear that Barbara Payne, an accredited member of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, has died following a long illness. 

When some three years ago the editor told me that Joan Stephens had asked to contribute articles to The Kibworth Chronicle and perhaps come and work with us, I recall saying “Not the Joan Stephens?”
