In July the Harborough Singers return to the barn where they rehearsed during the later stages of Covid. Happily, this time they will not be evading a killer virus, but expressing their gratitude to the barn’s owners, the Johnson family, of Rectory Farm at Great Easton.

Last Sunday, 14 May, was an auspicious day when at last, Kibworth Harcourt Post Mill, a unique and outstanding historic mill, was officially reopened during National Mills Weekend by members of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) plus interested guests.

We had a great response to the four new courses we promoted to start after the Easter Holidays. Forty children, aged between three and ten have started playing Mini Tennis by joining the four new six week courses, using the free rackets they received by booking on to the course.

Kibworth Grammar School Hall AGM was held on the 12 April. This was a very well attended meeting and the trustees would like to say a big thank you to all who came along.

Both theatre groups were really pleased with the reception our latest production, A Bunch of Amateurs, by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman received.

Harborough District Children and Young People’s Charity (HCYC) are very excited to announce a new youth club for the young people of Kibworth. Anyone aged 11 years to 16 years is invited to drop into The Well café on Tuesday evenings, term time, 6-7.30pm.

Cadent had permission to install gas pipes to the Coach & Horses pub in the week of 17-21 April and, initially, apart from switching off the Pelican pedestrian crossing lights, there were 2-way traffic lights to control traffic along the A6. This still resulted in long traffic queues, but these became much worse from mid-week when the roadworks included digging a trench half-way across the A6, and 4-way traffic lights were introduced.

What goes on when we’re not singing together? Well it’s safe to say that a day in the life of KLC is very much all about having fun!

In Smeeton Westerby, we celebrated the King’s Coronation in style. From flags flying throughout the village to our special church service. Plus the Coronation BBQ, and Big Community Help out, (litter picking along the roads that enter our village). It was all rounded off with a ‘bring your own’ picnic!

When we imagine something, the same parts of the brain are active as when we actually experience the event. That’s to say, brain cells make no distinction between fantasy and reality. Because the mind and the body are intimately connected, when we remember an unpleasant experience, the feelings we had at the time come back to us.
