Dear Editor – Open Churches

Thank you for the series on our district churches. We were particularly pleased to see the articles regarding Kings Norton and Gaulby. But saddened to read the anonymous letter regarding church visiting which particularly mentioned access at Kings Norton.

The churches in the Gaulby Group have been kept open for many years, apart from the unaviodable closures due to Covid. Kings Norton was closed after Storm Eunice because of falling masonry but reopened some months ago. The latch at this church is of an unusual type, which some have found difficult to operate. Last year a plaque was put on the door explaining how to open it. I hope your correspondent tries again.

Regarding Gaulby church, extensive internal reordering took place in 2019 to improve access and facilities. The pews have subsequently been replaced with comfortable chairs. This gives flexibility and enables the church to be used for a variety of community events alongside its main purpose as a place of worship. These events include our popular summer teas, concerts, quiz nights, and the scarecrow festival as well as other social occasions. Details of services and events can be found on the Gaulby page of achurchnearyou.com.  Everyone is warmly welcomed.
