In 1989, there was held in the cathedral of St Stephen’s in Vienna the funeral of Zita the former Empress of Austria and former Queen of Hungary. She was the widow of the last Emperor Charles (Karl) 1st of Austria also Charles (Karl) 1V, king of Hungary. She was 96 and had been a widow for 67 years. The setting for the service was Mozart’s Requiem Mass. It was attended by 6,000 people and lasted two hours.

From 10am-3pm we will hold a cheese and charcuterie tasting day.  There will be a fantastic range of British cheeses and charcuterie for you to try, plus a great selection of chutneys, breads, pork pies, and sausage rolls to provide some inspiration for the Christmas season. We are proud to present an evening of music starring world-renowned soprano singer Denise Leigh. Denise has performed for the royal family, including our late queen, at several venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Kensington Palace. She gave a solo performance at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. She has featured on many programmes including ‘BBC Proms in the Park’, ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ and ‘Songs of Praise’. Leigh has also performed with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic and London Handel Players. She will be supported on the evening by her husband, Stefan Andrusyschyn, playing the keyboard and accordion.

At our last meeting we were entertained by one of our very own members, Rhena Sturgess. Rhena has always had a great interest in antiques (perhaps that is why we get on so well!). She has lots of genuine clothes and strange items in her mammoth collection. We were just listening to her introduction when Kathy stood at the door dressed in a First World War Nurses uniform. This originally belonged to Mary Pane who is a distant relative by marriage.
