Leicester Tigers Foundation, “When we were Tigers” Monument located at Leicester Tigers Stadium, Welford Road Plaza, is to be formally unveiled by Peter Wheeler, DL on 11 November - Armistice Day. The unveiling will commence at 10.30am. The monument commemorates and celebrates the 54 Leicester Tigers rugby players who lost their lives as a consequence of war.

Amazingly from an idea proposed in the Editorial of this publication some six weeks ago the pop up, Welcome Kitchen - a meeting place with warmth and food, has already had two successful sessions (Even though it hasn’t been that cold outside!)

It’s now a month since our food bank became a hub of the Trussell Trust’s Leicester South Food Bank.

The Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival is back. The Festival is celebrating its 21^st year, after a break during the pandemic.

After the success of the first Hallaton Christmas Fair last year, we are delighted to be holding this artisan Christmas Fair again on Saturday 3 December in the Church.

I well remember the ITV series ‘Wide Awake Club’ that was broadcast on children’s Saturday TV between 1984 and 1989. (I was grown up by then but still indulged myself by watching the occasional episode). You can find the cheery opening titles on YouTube.

On Sunday 23 October thirty-five neighbours and friends attended a Ploughman’s Lunch at 47 Main Street Kilby.  In the past the village enjoyed a harvest supper at The United Reformed Church on Main Street. Now we no longer have that facility, in order to keep the village together it was decided to have a Ploughman’s Lunch held at the home of John and Anne Emery.  Fortunately, after a very wet start to the day, the sun came out just before noon. Thankfully everyone arrived in sunshine. 

At our October meeting, members and visitors were treated to a demonstration by mixed-media professional artist, Danielle Vaughan. Danielle talked about and demonstrated her own unique style of collage art. These are created using waste materials, mainly ripped paper from magazines.
