Centenary of a Royal Wedding

24th April 2023 | News

One hundred years ago on 23 April 1923 royalty gathered in Westminster Abbey. They came to witness and celebrate the union between HRH Albert 2nd son of King George V and Queen Mary with Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, daughter of the Earl of Strathmore. The happy couple were later to become King George VI and Queen Elizabeth following the abdication of Prince Albert’s elder brother King Edward VIII in 1936.

Much of my work in schools over the years has been in the field of developing children’s thinking skills. Even now, much of the focus of the curriculum requires children to remember facts and reiterate them at exam time. Such recollection of information is a low-level skill. The highlights of this hour did not amount to much: three bullfinches seen and one singing chiffchaff.

Kibworth Bowling Club - April 2023

24th April 2023 | Clubs and Societies

Following a very successful outdoor season, Kibworth Bowls Club has been well represented during the full-rink indoor season at Harborough Leisure Centre. In the Monday ‘outdoor clubs playing indoors’  triples league (12 teams), our two teams finished second and third. A similar, Tuesday league saw good results for three other Kibworth teams. The Harborough internal leagues saw Malcolm Moss, Richard Bateman and past-member Malcolm Johnson top the Wednesday Aussie Pairs league. Whilst Chris Hunt, Gill Beresford (and friends from Little Bowden) won the Friday triples league.

Millwrighting - Past and present

24th April 2023 | What's On

Windmills and watermills are some of our landscape’s best-loved structures. These buildings are rooted in the nation’s agricultural life and are an integral part of the food supply chain. National Mills Weekend (13-14 May) will focus this year on ‘Millwrighting – Past and Present’. This celebrates the repair of wind and watermills which allows those important historical buildings to survive for future generations to come.
