It’s so hard to believe that this time last year we were looking forward to our Spring fête in the library. One really good thing that has come out of this strange new world we find ourselves in, is our wonderful sense of community here in the Kibworths and the surrounding villages. So many of us have connected with others to help in whatever way we can. Whether it be collecting prescriptions, buying food or sourcing elusive items like hearing aid batteries.

The 'area' contest is the most important contest of the year and one that we must enter to secure our first section grading. Our placings over a three year period are added together and at the end of the year the two bands with the lowest aggregate figure go up a section. We are pleased that out of a field of 16 bands and playing number 5 we were placed 3rd. An excellent result for us and many thanks to our Musical Director Brendan Caddy and all our players for their hard work.

Club News: The spring weather has been kind to us and we have managed lots of social rides out to various cafes across the county - cyclists never tire of coffee and cake!
The good weather has seen our numbers swell with a number of new and returning riders joining. We cater for all different shapes, sizes and abilities and it is refreshing to see so many people benefitting from cycling. We have also got new summer kit to complement our existing stock. You may see us in our brand new ‘Le Col’ black and red shirt which has been kindly sorted by Fraser Law, so watch out for us around the villages!
We started the year with a bit of exercise (not too much), we had an evening of ten pin bowling.

Our 2019 programme began with a talk and demonstration by local artist Sarah Luke on Fused Glass work. Sarah has always had an interest in creative, artistic work which began with taking art at school and was followed up by studying at Charles Keene College (now Leicester College). However, her early career as a photographer’s studio assistant - which took her all around the country setting up photo shoots - was cut short when her employer’s business folded; as a matter of expediency Sarah went to work in a betting shop. Family life followed, and her artistic endeavours were put on hold, although she still retained an interest in creative arts. Even the demands of caring for three young grandchildren did not deter her from artistic interests.

Although it is still late winter, it’s encouraging see bulbs pushing their leaves above ground and hellebores, snowdrop and crocus in flower. We can look forward to the approaching growing year, and start planning our plots.
