The Friends of St Wilfrid’s latest concert will be  SALVO BRASS

It was celebration time for the Fleckney & Kibworth Running Club last month. We held a long overdue awards evening for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. All nominations and votes come from fellow Club Members across a variety of categories.

Last month we presented a £500 cheque to GEMS Charity. This was from the proceeds made at our Christmas concert. In return GEMS attended a rehearsal and presented us with a certificate of thanks for money raised. They confirmed the money will go towards their current project of converting a balcony into a treatment area for chemotherapy patients at the URI Osbourne building.

After an absence of two years we are pleased to report that the Annual Show of the Gardening Club will again be taking place on Saturday 3 September at Jubilee Hall, Bowden Lane, Market Harborough.

The Captains at Kibworth Golf Club for 2022/23 have now been officially nominated and voted into office. No sooner had the process been completed than the fun began with the Captains Drive-In. 

Soave is world famous, but it’s not the only white wine in northern Italy. A wine from Lugana, a region at the southern end of Lake Garda, between Lombardy and Veneto, is a worthy rival. The wine is based on a single grape variety which was originally thought to be part of the ubiquitous, but dull, Trebbiano family and therefore called ‘Trebbiano di Lugana’. DNA analysis has shown that it’s closely related to Verdicchio, (of Castelli di Jesi fame), but that it’s not identical. So now it’s called ‘Turbiana’.

We have been pleased to welcome some new members to our club from Kibworth and surrounding areas.

“My Arctic Adventure with Huskies”, a talk by Matthew Hopkinson, had us enthralled at our February meeting.

At our meeting on Tuesday 15 February Kilby WI welcomed Gill Mouncer from the Royal Scottish County Dancing Society.

Kibworth Bowling Club members have enjoyed indoor carpet bowls over the winter months.

The Kibworth Art Lovers Society welcomed professional artist, Helen Neave, to their February meeting. Here she demonstrated her drawing and watercolour painting techniques with a focus on wildlife.

Our Wednesday 20 April meeting will host a talk by Nick Turrell. Nick is an award-winning gardening journalist who writes for The Sunday Times, the Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and the RHS Magazine. He has also worked on TV and radio programmes including Radio Leicester every weekend. The subject will be “Tricks of the Trade of Garden Design” and should be of particular interest to anyone who has recently purchased a ‘new build’ house and is looking for inspiration for their ‘blank’ plot. He will also include a reference to his ‘On Call Garden Doctor’ service, where he visits your garden for one hour, chats about the issues, offers design advice and writes a ‘prescription,’ which you can then take to the garden centre to get what you need as and when you are ready. Sounds an excellent idea!

February is a busy time here at KGC as we prepare for the annual AGM. The meeting gives the members the opportunity to vote for the incoming officers and review the year.

Over the past 12 months the club has grown and established itself within the local community. We now boast a really healthy active membership with ages ranging from 15 to 80. We have become more than just a cycling club, most of us have become really good friends and do other activities together.
