On Friday 1 October, we held a coffee morning in The Well café in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £250! 

The Rotary Club are holding their Bonfire and Firework Spectacular on Saturday 6 November in the field opposite the top of New Road, Kibworth. 

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is now.

We chose Saturday 2 October for our second neighbourhood cake sale on Centurion Place. Sadly, Allison Purkiss and I realised that we have an uncanny knack of choosing the day on which we are going to have the worst possible weather for the time of year.

Leicestershire and Rutland’s very own cancer charity, Hope Against Cancer, has been awarded a place as a beneficiary charity of Charitable Travels 2021 More to Explore, Malta Campaign.

Schools are back, summer is drawing to a close and there’s been a lot of change at The Well over the last few months.

We are celebrating 25 years of fundraising, during which time the Friends have raised thousands of pounds for different projects for our lovely Church building. Our next fundraiser will be a Jazz Evening with The Fourmasons in St. Wilfrid’s Hall on Friday 26 November at 7.00 pm  Tickets £15 each (available from 1 October) to include supper. Every year I hold a coffee morning at our house to raise funds for Macmillan. We even managed to hold one last year, keeping to all the Covid rules and regulations. In fact, we made a record profit for the charity. So, the details were as follows:

What a great summer we have had here in Smeeton! It started off with ‘Brass on the Grass’, our annual band concert on the allotments. The Oddfellows Brass Band came in force again to entertain us with renditions of music and songs old and new. What a talented band they are! Even the clouds parted and the sun decided to come out to listen. Although this is a free event, the donations raised were for GEMS and came to £650.
