One of the main reasons to go to the Bristol Wine Fair in the 1970s was the chance to taste Condrieu, a small district in the northern Rhone dedicated to an exotic grape variety, Viognier.

Earlier in the year, I wrote an article for the Kibworth & District Chronicle to mark Mum and Dad’s platinum wedding anniversary (March edition Issue 420).  A few months later – with great sadness, but gratitude for two long, happy and well-lived lives – I find myself writing their obituaries. 

The invisible have become visible, well for most of us. The refuse collectors, the supermarket staff, the nurses and support staff, even the doctors (not too sure about the doctors who may have a high profile particularly for the vulnerable) and the delivery drivers. Sorry if you have been left out. We have been taking these people for granted for too long. Hopefully, we will be more observant and appreciative of their services.

Life has seemed rather flat recently. I feel guilty about saying that as there are almost 50,000 people who would love to be here living any sort of life, flat or interesting.

On 15 August we remembered 75 years of Victory in Japan. This brought back memories of my Great Uncle Oliver ‘Jack’ Crowdell who died aged 27 in Japan at the end of World War 2.

This is unusual, to get a joint report from both Kibworth Beauchamp and Kibworth Harcourt Parish Councils in one article!

Fourth week of lockdown. On the whole, life is so much simpler, especially while we are blessed with beautiful weather and we actually have the time to enjoy Spring evolving before our eyes.
