The Well Cafe and Shop reopened on Monday (12 April). It was so lovely to welcome back some old friends and meet a few new ones. We all sat happily in the garden soaking up the sunshine. We are open every weekday from 9.30am to 1pm.

Fiona Cairns Ltd is a local business based in Fleckney making many thousands of luxury cakes each year. The business has grown from its humble origins at a kitchen table in Mowsley.

Celia Herrick is a Kibworth based British Wheel of Yoga teacher who has taught Yoga for twenty-eight years, predominantly in Kibworth but also across South East Leicestershire, including Drayton, Smeeton Westerby, Great Glen, Oadby, Leicester, Market Harborough and Hallaton.

The Big Knit campaign has returned and Age UK Leicestershire & Rutland is calling on the knitters and crocheters to get their knitting needles out again to help raise urgent funds for local older people most in need.

John Willcocks, a former resident of Kibworth Harcourt, has died at the age of 86.

The word ‘affirmation’ comes from the Latin meaning ‘to make strong’ and via Middle English with the sense of making firm. In terms of wellbeing an affirmation is a statement we repeat to ourselves and aim to achieve and live by.

My intention this month was to tell you about the insects that benefit from the Sallow, a tree in the Willow family. Not being particularly “good” on trees I needed to do some research. This was so interesting that the insects will have to wait until next month.           

I was born at Horsforth near Leeds, West Yorkshire in the springtime of 1935 and lived in Menston-in-Wharfedale, near Ilkley. I was the younger of twin boys, weighing only 3 lbs (pounds) at birth and not expected to survive, relying on being wrapped in cotton wool in the absence of incubators. But survive I did!

The AGM, our first by Zoom, was held on Monday 22 March and officers re-elected. Chair: Paul Rose, Vice-Chair: Sarah Cripps, Treasurer: David Jenkinson and Secretary (because no one else will fill such big shoes): Erica Parsons. Other committee members are Jean McCann and Helen Simpson.
