Back in March, before I’d contracted the Coronavirus, I had a holiday booked for the start of June. At the time I was confident that all the Covid-19 disruptions would be over and I could look forward to some sun, sea and sand abroad. How wrong I was!
The 100th edition of the ‘Foxton Folio’, the local village newsletter, was published this autumn. It was the idea of Julia Bedford and was formed from the amalgamation of the Residents Association and the Foxton Heritage Group. It was nearly 25 years ago, in spring 1996, that the first Folio came through the Foxton villagers’ letterboxes.
As of 5 November, we are back to square two. All navigation is stopped except in special circumstances. The locks only open by pre-booking 24 hours in advance with a valid reason, and not at weekends. Pubs are closed, and the shop/café selling drinks and food for take-away only. People are allowed to drive out to take exercise this time. This is within reason (although there seem to be different interpretations of ‘reason’). Since we have had some beautiful warm sunny late-autumn days there have been plenty of visitors. Thankfully the car park toilets are open. The colours in the trees and reflections in the undisturbed water have provided some good photo opportunities.
Foxton Choir is really pleased to announce that we will be singing Christmas carols in the village this year but not quite as usual. Rather than the Choir coming to your front door, this time we hope that we can tempt you to leave your snug front rooms, wrap up warm and join us to sing some of your favourite carols, as well as some other lovely festive songs that you may not be quite so familiar with.
Harborough District Council agreed, on 7 December, to allocate funding of more than £20,000 to a number of worthwhile projects across the Harborough district aiming to boost community wellbeing.
I would like to say an enormous Thank You to all those who have contributed to my Just Giving fund to provide toys for children from families who are struggling this Christmas.
