The new Warrick Park footpath

How useful has this new footpath been on Warwick Park?  Since the first lockdown it has been used, no doubt, countless times when folks have been taking their daily exercise. When the rains came in the autumn it was used in preference to the muddy recreation ground.  It’s a path that leads to the newly installed Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). And now with the arrival of snow it is one of the safer routes for getting around our village.

The Well's Foodbank ideas

I'm sure I'm not the only person who's been cheered by the pink and red shiny hearts hanging on the trees outside the Co-op in the village. This is such a simple gesture, but one that brings colour and hope to the day. After an exceptionally busy January, returning from Christmas straight into Lockdown, February has started at The Well Next Door with several new developments.

If birds are not your thing, I apologise for my decision to dedicate two Nature Notes to the crow family.  However, this is a good time of year to get to grips with the identification of our six locally resident “crows”. This month I am concentrating on the four “black” crows and at a later date I will look at our two “colourful” crows and at some crows that you are unlikely to see in Leicestershire.

We must all be dreaming of warmer, sunnier, longer days. February can be the hardest month, but there are already signs of spring. Snowdrops are poking through the frozen earth, the sun is rising earlier and setting later, and there is definitely the sound of more bird song.
