It’s been a great start to 2023 for F&K. There’s been plenty of runners attending our Club Nights, including our couch to 5K, as well as some members taking part in the third race of the Derby Runner Cross Country league. We now have two more XC Events to go, as we begin to approach the Road Running League races.
I mislaid my mobile phone the other day. As I had switched it off, while in a meeting, I could not ring it on the landline to trace it. I gave up looking and went out to do some gardening. The day was fine after an early frost, and forking away, I felt invigorated and pleased with myself. Back indoors, later, for a coffee I listened to Radio 4 and caught one of my favourite programmes , “Just One Thing,” presented by Dr Michael Moseley. His latest offer for our consideration was entitled ‘Put your phone down.’ How apt and how informative.
Netflix provides a wide variety of entertaining films or movies at an acceptable cost. I think we pay £5 per month. Recently, we scrolled through the choices, not knowing where to settle. Eventually, impatience took over from indecisiveness and the film -timely as it turned out -'Bank of Dave' was agreed upon. What a worthwhile choice it turned out to be, starring Rory Kinnear; Hugh Bonneville and Phoebe Dynevor. Dave Fishwick had accumulated a large sum of money running his business in Burnley. He is later persuaded to open a bank in his name in his hometown of Burnley (this is fact.)
As many of you will know, we operate a food bank to support local people that are experiencing food poverty. The demand has increased recently due to the cost-of-living crisis.
I have a confession to make. Many years ago, when I was at college, I used to splash on some ‘Burley’ cologne for men before going to the disco. Another confession I must make is that I’ve kept the bottle ever since: there’s a little bit of cologne left in it, and sometimes when I have a quiet moment by myself, I’ll unstopper the bottle, take a sniff and memories of those far-off disco days flood into my mind.
Our first meeting of the year was testing the ‘little grey cells’ of members of Illston on the Hill WI. We all enjoyed a quiz, some music, current affairs, musicals, sorting out first letters of villages, tv programmes, flowers and much more.
