I have a confession to make. Many years ago, when I was at college, I used to splash on some ‘Burley’ cologne for men before going to the disco. Another confession I must make is that I’ve kept the bottle ever since: there’s a little bit of cologne left in it, and sometimes when I have a quiet moment by myself, I’ll unstopper the bottle, take a sniff and memories of those far-off disco days flood into my mind.

Our first meeting of the year was testing the ‘little grey cells’ of members of Illston on the Hill WI. We all enjoyed a quiz, some music, current affairs, musicals, sorting out first letters of villages, tv programmes, flowers and much more.

Our Warm Space, residency at Kibworth Grammar School Hall at 12noon - 2pm on Monday lunchtime is rapidly coming to an end. This will be the second of the eight-week events. The last date for the Welcome Kitchen will be Monday 27 February. Our friend, Karen Bevan from the Co-op, will be providing a Fair Trade chocolate tasting session, as it is ‘Fair Trade Fortnight’.

Walking over the Grammar School Bridge there is graffiti sprayed onto the floor. What does it mean? Is it part of the electrification of the Midland Main Line? This is coming along in leaps and bounds judging by the number of stanchions one can see from the A6 as you travel towards Market Harborough.

I expect a great many readers have visited this church not necessarily to worship but to look with wonder and awe at the numerous decorated Christmas Trees that form the now annual Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival. This began back in the year 2000 and has been held annually except for the two years when Covid prevented it from happening.
