Although it is still late winter, it’s encouraging see bulbs pushing their leaves above ground and hellebores, snowdrop and crocus in flower. We can look forward to the approaching growing year, and start planning our plots.
At Kibworth Tennis Club we want to provide opportunities for as many children as possible to play matches locally. So we have set up a new and exciting team event for children from the ages of 6 through to 18. A total of 146 children will be taking part and 2 teams have been formed with 73 children in each team!

This year sees the bi-centenary of the births of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Kibworth Harcourt and Kibworth Beauchamp commemorated both monarch and consort by naming streets after them. Albert Street remains in Harcourt, sadly Victoria Street in Beauchamp has disappeared.
A sponsored quarter peal rang out on 1st December at St Peter's, Gaulby. The team of local ringers raised over £750 to boost the funds of the Gaulby project. The project aims to provide an improved community space within the church as it is the only public building in the village.
Roger and Danièle Bradley described their lives with photography at the November meeting. They have practised photography for many years, and their work has been influenced by early pioneers such as Sir John Herschel (1842) and Anna Atkins (1843). Roger’s family moved to Canada in his early childhood, where he was given his first camera as a reward for finishing his paper round; on his return to England he taught photography. Recurring themes in his work are transport such as shipping and railways. Danièle’s first camera came from her father, and she has featured landscapes and her family many times.
Community spirit has very much been on display all over our villages this festive season. Residents of Kibworth’s Longbreach Road, Kibworth Meadows and beyond, came together on Thursday 13 December for the first lighting of a newly planted Christmas tree. (Did I mention mulled wine and carols?) The tree was very kindly planted by David Wilson Homes on what has become known as ‘the green’ since residents organised a gathering there in May to celebrate the Royal Wedding, and sparked a tradition…
At our November meeting members made their way into the main hall and were met with beautifully set out tables of cosmetics, as well as a most delicious smell. All of a sudden we felt very relaxed.
