I am sure that I speak for a lot of people when I say a very big thank you to the unpaid volunteers who give their time and energy to make such a tremendous success of Kibworth Library. I know that, over and above their traditional library, they are missing the extra activities they organise when not so restricted by Covid-19.

Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day 2020 were marked in a different way this year. This was due to the nationwide Covid virus restrictions in place.

Life can sometimes throw a spanner in the works. My spanner was me and my family testing positive for Covid-19. Hearing about the virus on the news could never prepare me for the last few weeks when I have experienced it first-hand. From what I have learnt, there are four ways people can feel the effects of Covid-19. Nothing, Minor, Serious or Fatal.

So, we’ve been open for barely two months  and we’re closed again for lockdown 2.0! It couldn’t come at a worse time for retailers. Especially for those of us in our first year of trading and unable to access any form of government support. But keeping everyone safe is the priority. So closure of our little shop at Pennbury Farm in Great Glen has prompted us to launch our online shop sooner than planned and it’s now live! 

 Before Lockdown

The Kibworth & District Chronicle is very sad to report that Isobel Cullum, for over 30 years a dedicated member of the Chronicle team, passed away on 27 October, aged 71.

 The council Zoom meeting was at 7pm on 5 November; there were no members of the public present.

We were looking into the possibility of having socially distanced band rehearsals. Unfortunately the current lockdown restrictions effectively put paid to these plans.

St Wilfrid’s, Kibworth

In the last two years Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club has raised awareness of those living with dementia. This disease, which is indiscriminate, can, in some cases be debilitating and isolating. The Club has been raising funds for Admiral Nurses (Specialist Dementia Care Nurses) for Leicestershire. Two years ago there were none in Leicestershire (apart from one in a teaching capacity). Now there are two at Leicester Royal Infirmary and one at LOROS. In addition there are also two Community Admiral nurses, working out of GP practices in Charnwood, Lutterworth and Blaby. These community nurses are part of a pilot, funded by Admiral Nurses for Leicestershire (www.facebook.com/dementiaUKforLeicestershire). Hopefully more such nurses will be appointed across the county.
