On 8 September members of the committee were preparing the Hall in readiness for our meeting when they heard the sad news of our Queen’s death. Our president made the decision to go ahead with the meeting. We all sang ‘Jerusalem’ as a tribute in honour and respect for Her Majesty, who had had a long association with the W.I.

The Long Queue

On Friday 16 September my friend Barbara Beattie and I set off for London to see The Queen Lying in State. We took the 9.35am train from Rugby to Euston. On arrival at Euston we hailed a Black Cab to take us to the end of the Queue. The driver told us that the Queue was closed, but that she would take us to see the flowers. We insisted that she took us to Southwark Park. At 11.00am, after walking across the Park, we found the end of the queue for the Queue.

Funds for the LRI Maternity Unit

The annual cake sale to raise funds for charity took place on the Centurion Place estate on Saturday 10 September. This was the third year we have held this event. It was once again very successful and well supported by the residents baking home-made goodies.

Kibworth Grammar School Hall - Oct 22

The Trustees of the Kibworth Grammar School Hall are delighted to announce that the plans for the redevelopment of the hall and the incorporation of the library have been approved. Phase one of the project has now been completed. Phase two, raising the actual funds for the project, is just beginning. We look forward to updating the Kibworth and District Chronicle readers as to how this exciting project is progressing in the coming weeks and months.  In the meantime, we would like to offer our thanks to Nortoft Planning, who have helped us get this far and with whom we look forward to working alongside.

Fleckney Village Cricket Club

In 2022 we launched a Women’s Softball side and, after nearly 20 years, have relaunched a Junior side. Our 1st XI were in contention for promotion for most of the year, our 2nd XI and Midweek/Friendly sides saw a good number of youngsters take their first steps into the game. Overall 94 people played some sort of Hardball Cricket and another 29 people played some sort of Softball/Junior Cricket
