Instead of an editorial this month, we decided to let a concerned resident’s voice be heard. Should we be worried? Let us know your views.

I have lived in Kibworth for eight years with my wife Nicola and been a parish councillor for the last two. We have two young boys, one in Year 1 and one due to start in 18 months, and I feel extremely lucky to be able to bring them up here.

Kibworth Village Hall Committee is mourning the loss Trudy Lakin, one of our committee members, who unfortunately passed away just before Christmas. Trudy was active up until the very end, and despite being extremely ill she still found time to think of others and to contribute to our committee meeting just days before she passed away.

Why do so few people seem to realise the seriousness of our situation regarding the climate and our way of life? It is so good that the majority of us are making changes but scientists and others are telling us that it’s not fast enough.

Our December fun began when David and Martin invited us to Kibworth Hall for an afternoon of carols. Between singing along with us, they served us Prosecco and warm mince pies and we thank them for making us so welcome in their beautiful home.

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital will be holding a coffee morning & table top sale on Sat 11 February in Kibworth Village Hall LE8 0LN. 10am - 12.45.

Market Harborough’s very own orchestra, MHO, is preparing to give its 25th concert. This will be under the baton of Stephen Bell. It will be held on Saturday 28 January at 7.30pm at Harborough Methodist Church, Northampton Road, MH.

At Kibworth Mead Academy we seek every opportunity to develop our young people so that they become successful, confident and responsible young people equipped with academic qualifications as well as the personal and social skills to enable them to make a positive difference to their community and the wider world.

This month’s note is a bird you are unlikely to find on your local ‘duck pond’. The ring-necked duck is a small diving duck from North America, related to the tufted duck with which you might be familiar.
