Not much to report this month as the main focus of the Band has been on rehearsals for the Area Contest on 2 March. Contests are the more serious side of Banding with this one being particularly important since it determines the Band’s national grading.

Our Third Tuesday Social speaker this month, Andy Wright, will talk all about The Well, the local Kibworth charity shop and café. The venue is Kibworth Community Hub (formerly Kibworth Grammar School Hall,) School Road, Kibworth Beauchamp. Tuesday 20 February, starting at 2pm. Guests welcome. Tea and biscuits available.

With so many events happening in Smeeton Westerby over the Christmas period, we ended up with a relaxing and quiet January. However, The Kings Head came up trumps with their Burns’ Night Supper on Thursday 25 January where a three course meal was served, the main dish naturally being haggis, neeps and tatties with whisky sauce. There was a variety of whiskies to wash everything down with. Not surprisingly, a great time was had by all.

Congratulations to all of the cast and crew on the massive success of our annual Pantomime, Dick Whittington, with particular thanks to Nicole Lambert who this year, made her Directorial Debut!

The Kibworth and Smeeton's WI new year’s programme began on Thursday 11 January with John Parnell talking to us about Circus Skills, which included some of the history of the circus in this country, together with entertaining
demonstrations of juggling.

Recently we watched and were absorbed by the TV adaptation of the events surrounding the Post Office Horizon scandal which received widespread public attention, forcing politicians to promise action and compensation? Ha ha!

Once again we are looking forward to welcoming you into the calving and lambing sheds at our annual open day, on Saturday 23 March Binleys Bridge Farm, Debdale Lane, Smeeton Westerby, LE8 0QD. Come down to the farm between 11am – 5pm to see the cows calving and sheep lambing. We will hopefully have a few pigs for you to see too.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and is a time when Christians reflect and prepare for the celebrations of Easter. Some people eat frugally or give up treats following the example of Jesus, who fasted for forty days in the wilderness. Others give to charity, set aside time to study the Bible and meet with other Christians to reflect on Jesus' life.
