Comets Disability Football Programme in Kibworth

Our County FA recently approached Kibworth Town FC to discuss setting up a disability football programme.

Off the back of these meetings, we are delighted to announce that we are now progressing with this initiative with a funding bid being submitted to the FA with Leicestershire County FA fully supporting the club to make this happen.

Football offer for boys and girls

The Comets programme is a recreational, pan-disability football offer for boys and girls aged 5-11 who have what is classed as a disability.

You may not think you are ‘disabled’ but you may be considered as having a disability!

The term ‘disability’ is a broad term that considers many more than we perhaps expect. Some children with disabilities may be in mainstream football already and may be absolutely fine in this setting.

Some children may be taking part in mainstream football but it may not be meeting their needs fully and some children may not fit into mainstream sporting environments or into PE in general and it is these children who may suit the Comets programme the most!

Disability …

Disability can encompass a huge range of diagnosis as listed and there are many more than listed here!

  • Long-term health conditions (Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Heart problems, childhood Arthritis)
  • Sensory conditions (Hearing and Sight impairments, noise and Sensory Processing Disorders)
  • Physical disabilities (Cerebral Palsy, Hypermobility, Muscular Dystrophy, Hemiplegia)
  • Learning, behavioural or psychological condition (ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, OCD, Downs Syndrome)

Weekly Sessions

Sessions will be on a weekly basis and are focussed on helping children have fun, whilst building physical skills, confidence, independence and social relationships. Comets provides an environment in which participants can feel safe and belong and it’s where playfulness and friendships can all come together.
