Smeeton Westerby’s Christmas celebrations started with a bang with our very successful Christmas Fayre. The hall looked really festive. Santa had arrived and was waiting patiently in his grotto. The stall holders had done a wonderful job setting up and displaying their goods and so all that were needed were customers! Knowing that there were other much bigger fêtes on, we opened our doors with some trepidation. However, to our great joy, so many people started arriving.

Rehearsals for our March Production of ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’ have begun in earnest, with a lot of work being done on the script and characterisation. Director Alison Langrick is very pleased with the progress that we are making and this is already looking as if it will be a very entertaining production. Certainly, if it causes as many laughs as the rehearsals are doing, then the audiences will be in for a very good time.

It was good to see so many people at the Remembrance Service Parade. We turned out a slightly smaller Band than normal – we were hit by Covid – and on this important day of the year it’s difficult to ‘borrow’ players because most bands are out.

The Club will hold its first meeting of 2023 on Thursday 12 January at 2.30pm (doors open 2.15pm) in the Methodist Chapel Hall. It will consist of the Annual General Meeting, a short slide show of the three 2022 trips and the annual show, followed by a talk by Gary Little, ‘A Taste of the Exotic’.
