This month's latest news from Smeeton Westerby. As the wonderful signs of spring start to appear, things are definitely ramping up here in Smeeton. Please check out the exciting things we have planned for you.

Following the success of our 2022 Open Gardens Day, the Foxton Gardens Society has plans for a follow-up.

Organised by the Climate Coalition, the ‘Great Big Green Week ‘is a celebration by people all over the country.  It’s taking place this year between Saturday 8 June and Sunday 16 June. The Green Street for local organisations and charities, is returning to the Harborough Carnival on Saturday 8 June too.

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital will be holding an Indoor Car Boot Sale in the Kibworth Community Hub, School Road LE8 0JE Kibworth, on Saturday 16 March from 10am until 1.45pm.

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital will be holding a coffee morning and table top sale on Saturday 9 March in Kibworth Village Hall, LE8 0LN, from 10am until 12.45pm.

Kibworth Tennis Club has a new club kit for 2024. A big thanks to the continued support from our club sponsor ‘Town & Country Veterinary Centre,’ based in Market Harborough, who make a significant contribution to the cost of the kit. Thanks to our models for showing off the new hoodie!

It’s been a quiet start to the year for Fleckney and Kibworth Running Club. Members have been attending club nights through the cold and wet weather every Tuesday and Thursday. 

Our Third Tuesday Social speaker this month, Andy Wright, will talk all about The Well, the local Kibworth charity shop and café. The venue is Kibworth Community Hub (formerly Kibworth Grammar School Hall,) School Road, Kibworth Beauchamp. Tuesday 20 February, starting at 2pm. Guests welcome. Tea and biscuits available.

With so many events happening in Smeeton Westerby over the Christmas period, we ended up with a relaxing and quiet January. However, The Kings Head came up trumps with their Burns’ Night Supper on Thursday 25 January where a three course meal was served, the main dish naturally being haggis, neeps and tatties with whisky sauce. There was a variety of whiskies to wash everything down with. Not surprisingly, a great time was had by all.

Once again we are looking forward to welcoming you into the calving and lambing sheds at our annual open day, on Saturday 23 March Binleys Bridge Farm, Debdale Lane, Smeeton Westerby, LE8 0QD. Come down to the farm between 11am – 5pm to see the cows calving and sheep lambing. We will hopefully have a few pigs for you to see too.
