Kibworth Community Library Celebrates 10 Years and a Busy Summer Ahead

Kibworth Community Library logo

Kibworth Community Library just celebrated ten years as a fully volunteer-run library with a party for recent and early volunteers in our lovely new building.

On a sunny summer Saturday, it was well attended and great to welcome so many familiar faces.

If you haven’t discovered us yet, we are just off School Walk, adjacent to the old Grammar School Hall. Do pop in and say hello.

Groups Continue Throughout the Summer

2026 is set to be the first summer when all our regular groups stay open. None of them want to take a break this year!

New members are welcome. There’s knitting, family history, a book group (with a short waiting list), and a new creative writing workshop.

For very young children there is weekly Storytime, and for children aged 6–10 there is Lego Club.

You can find details of days and times on our website.

The newly formed Kibworth & District Heritage Society is based in the Kibworth Community Library too, and it really has hit the ground running.

Summer Reading Challenge

Children aged 4 to 12 are invited to join our annual Summer Reading Challenge.

The challenge begins on Saturday 4 July and ends on Saturday 5 September.

This year’s challenge is entitled Read to the Beat and has a musical theme.

To complete the challenge and earn a medal, children must read or listen to six books sourced from the library.

Fun reading, earning stickers and rewards along the way, helps to keep skills sharp over the long summer holiday.

Book Sales Return in August

Our popular book sales take a break in July before returning on:

  • Saturday 8 August
  • Saturday 12 September

We greatly value your donations of both adult and children’s books. They are an asset to our library, form part of its character, and provide an important strand of our ongoing fundraising.

Late Summer Talks

Tickets are already on sale for our three late summer talks.

Talks taking place at the Kibworth Library during the summer

Running for Rhinos in Kenya

On Thursday 20 August, Edd Moore will be talking about Running for Rhinos in Kenya.

Edd grew up in Kibworth, and his latest challenge is a gruelling five-day run through the African heat to raise funds for protecting rhinos from poachers.

Children aged 10 and over are welcome with an adult, and there will be a home-made lunchtime snack.

Leprosy in Medieval Leicestershire

On Wednesday 26 August at 7pm, Julie Harrison will present Leprosy in Medieval Leicestershire.

The talk follows her very popular and slightly gruesome presentation on the Black Death in Kibworth. This event is for adults only.

Captain James Cook’s First Voyage

On Tuesday 22 September, Richard Hill will be talking about Captain James Cook’s First Voyage.

Richard moved to Kibworth less than a year ago and is already establishing himself as a well-known speaker.

Looking Ahead

We would like to wish you all a very happy and entertaining summer and look forward to welcoming you to our rather special library.
