St Wilfrid’s Church September 2026

St Wilfrids Church

St Wilfrid’s Church September 2026 news includes a Benefice Service For All on Sunday 30 August, and we were delighted to welcome Revd David Newman, previously Archdeacon of Loughborough and Warden at Launde Abbey, to preach and officiate.

Benefice Services are held when there is a fifth Sunday in the month, and include input from Kibworth, Saddington and Smeeton Westerby churches.

We are delighted to share that Theresa Jackson has been appointed to the Diocesan Intercultural Steering Group, a team committed to helping our churches grow as places where people of every culture, background and story feel fully at home.

Theresa is one of our Associate Ministers, and also works closely with the Chaplains and young people at Kibworth Primary School.

Our Youth Group visits Launde Abbey

Our young people, aged from 7-13 years old, had their annual visit to Launde Abbey last Sunday 6 September. This coincided with The Feast of Creation in Christ, which is a new festival in the calendar of the Church of England.

This festival will take place annually on the first Sunday in September, and was reflected in the young people’s engagement with the garden and woodland at Launde. The theme of the day was ‘We are a unique creation, loved by God’ and activities included a scavenger hunt, wild art and stone decorating as well as talks, exploration around the grounds, lunch and refreshments.

St Wilfrid’s Youth Group meet on the first Sunday of the month from 5-7pm at the Church Hall; please note that parents must drop off and collect their children.

Harvest Services

Harvest Festival

Our next special event will be the Harvest Service on Sunday 4 October. Our monthly ‘9.30 Express’ won’t be taking place, but we invite everyone to join us for breakfast in the hall at 10am before our fun-filled, family-friendly service at 10.30am.

Your donations of the following items would be greatly appreciated: dried, tinned and packets of store cupboard essentials that will be delivered to the Foodbank at The Well; pot plants and trays of winter bedding plants to distribute to those in our community who are recently bereaved or unwell. We kindly ask that fresh produce is not donated – thank you.

This year’s Harvest Service will take place on Sunday 20 September at 10am at Christ Church, Smeeton Westerby.

Our 4pm Traditional Communion services with the organ and choir will be taking place on Sundays 20 September and 18 October.
