Saint Wilfrid’s news and events

Pentecost Service 24 May 10.30am
What is Pentecost? It is considered by some to be the Church’s birthday. It marks fifty days since Easter Day, and the day when the Holy Spirit was received. To represent wind and flames it is usually celebrated with red and orange to signify ‘tongues of fire’.
Fathers’ Day Service 21 June 10.30am
Come and join us to celebrate Fathers and all who ‘father’ others. They will receive a gift to thank them for all they do. We will be welcoming back Luke Briggs to give another talk. Luke is on the Chaplaincy team to the University of Leicester. If you joined us for Luke’s last visit in January, you will know what an engaging speaker he is!
Bell ringing
In response to the Editor’s question on last month’s back page – whilst we unfortunately no longer have our own team of regular ringers at St Wilfrid’s, we are very lucky to be popular with visiting teams. We have already hosted 6 teams so far this year! Did you know that our oldest bell dates back to 1620, before The Mayflower set sail for the New World (now North America)?!
Lunchstop
The last Lunchstop before the summer break will take place on Thursday 11 June from 12noon until 1.15pm. Please note that this will be on the second Thursday of the month, rather than the first, due to volunteers’ holidays. Everyone is welcome to join us at the Church Hall for a delicious homemade lunch and company.
