I am delighted to say that our latest Quizaret was a huge success and the Grammar School Hall was filled to capacity. We had 14 teams of six or seven. Did that give some an unfair advantage with an extra brain ‘on board’? Of course not, this was an LMT Quiz, full of quirk, fun and unknown quantities!

The Kibworth Art Lovers Society held its annual exhibition on 3 and 4June, returning, for the first time since 2019, to the Kibworth Grammar School Hall. Over 200 visitors came to view more than 100 original paintings by our talented local artists and we were delighted with the public response. The vote for favourite work ‘ The Pantile’, Tunbridge Wells.

We welcomed Oliver and Jane Wicksteed to our May meeting to talk about ‘Wicksteed Park - Past and Present’. A Grade II English Heritage listed park and garden owned by Wicksteed Charitable Trust. More than an amusement park, having extensive gardens, a lake, a nature reserve and sports facilities. Fred Perry taught there.

The last meeting of Illston-on-the-Hill WI included the annual resolutions. This year there was only one resolution which was, ‘Clean rivers for people and wildlife’. There was a lively discussion on this subject and of course we were all in favour of huge improvements to both rivers and seas. However it was generally felt that the water companies must take a massive amount of responsibility for polluting our waters and ultimately the decisions (and fines) must be instigated by the Government. Obviously, whatever pressure can be brought to bear by the WI is more than welcome.

There has been a men’s keep fit group in Kibworth since the 1960s. Originally based in Kibworth Grammar School Hall, then subsequently in Kibworth Village Hall and Kibworth High School Hall.
