Life is starting to take on a new kind of normality. In fact, it almost seems that this is a movie taking place that we’re not part of, and I’m worried that we’re feeling a false sense of security.

Under normal circumstances at this time of year we would have been preparing for our Annual Exhibition. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided reluctantly to cancel this year’s show. However, it will give members time to prepare more artworks for display when we hold our next exhibition. In the meantime, the painting by Pat Porteous from a previous exhibition will surely whet our appetites for the future.

I would like to say a big thank you to two special people in our community who have definitely succeeded in making the new normal a pleasurable experience during these trying times.

As of 1^st July, St Wilfrid’s is now open for private prayer from 10.00 till 11.00am every day, except Saturdays. Christ Church, Smeeton Westerby is also open for private prayer from 10am til 4pm on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Following the Michael Wood Story of England book and T V series in 2010, which has recently been repeated, the Kibworth Improvement Team (KiT) started a project to capture the history of the Kibworths and Smeeton Westerby in an on-line museum at www.kibworthvillage.co.uk/museum

The Rotary club heard of the Well’s predicament with the launch of their foodbank during the Covid-19 lockdown, in not having enough storage for frozen foodstuffs donated to the charity.

Sue Buchanan has been organising the distribution of the Kibworth & District Chronicle to 5,000 homes in villages around Kibworth for almost eight years. Each month Sue has checked the availability of volunteers and arranged cover if any are unwell or on holiday.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Betty when I read the article today (26 June) on the Chronicle’s website. Betty was my neighbour for a good couple of years, and as her obituary stated she was forthright in some opinions but we also had some good laughs as well.

Local independent opticians Edmonds and Slatter opened its doors for routine eye care on Monday 22^nd June as restrictions started to ease, including for the first time at their new Kibworth practice. However, in the last few months their team offered an emergency eye care and eyewear service to assist key workers, vulnerable residents and anyone else that needed urgent support.

As a Club we were lucky to be able to host the Kibworth 6 Race on Sunday 8 March, a couple of weeks before the Lockdown was announced. The second event in the LRRL Calendar is a valuable source of income for the Club as well as raising £200 for the Local Air Ambulance Charity.
