Usually at this time of year everyone is getting ready for Christmas celebrations. In Gumley that usually means a Nativity or Carol Service and a Christingle Service, in St Helen’s our beautiful church.

Hungry Hedgehogs

Just a few months after decimalisation, on 17 May 1971, 10cwt of coal was delivered to a customer in Council Street (now Stuart  Street), Kibworth Beauchamp. The coal merchants were Bromley Bros. and Sons, who were based at the old Kibworth railway station yard and could be contacted by telephone on Kibworth 407.

I note that local parents and parish councillors have been informed and consulted on a school’s governing body’s intention to work towards joining a multi-academy trust before the end of the current school year.

I would like to say a big thank you to the management team at Kibworth Golf Club for opening the grounds for the general public to enjoy during these difficult time. It’s been wonderful to appreciate the open space, lovely colours of the trees, sound of the water fountains and to be able to wander with friends, stopping to sup a flask of coffee and have a chat on a bench. The lovely grounds are an asset to Kibworth and a testament to the skills of their grounds team.

Most of us adore the longest day in Summer, whilst very few of us the shortest day in winter!

The good news is that we started all of the tennis activities again at the club from Wednesday December 2nd. The courts have been very busy with children and adults glad to be back doing an outdoor activity despite some of the rubbish weather.

We are very sad to report that Alan Butcher, known as Chip, passed away on the 7th of November. He was a postman for ten years and then landlord of the Railway Arms and the Kings Head in Smeeton Westerby.

It would be an under statement to say 2020 has been a strange year... we have all had to deal with a variety of challenges and the golf club is no exception
