Snow was forecast on 8 January, our meeting night. With none falling by 6.30pm our intrepid president, Teresa, set out from Oadby. Other members, braving the cold, began to arrive, just 16 in all. We shelved the business part of the meeting and settled down for the talk.

There will be a special service at St Wilfrid’s Kibworth with communion, hymns, and prayer. During this service, ashes made from palm crosses are blessed and used to make crosses on people’s foreheads to signify the repentance of sin and mortality.

This year, Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust celebrates seven decades of Nature Recovery across Leicestershire and Rutland, five decades of Rutland Water Nature Reserve, and three decades of Ospreys reintroduced to Rutland. This milestone triple anniversary provides a moment to reflect upon the conservation progress made so far. But also the work still to be done, to ensure the wildlife of our two counties flourishes and remains. Special anniversary events are taking place throughout 2026 and we invite everyone to join the celebrations.

Fresh from our successful production of Rhyme and Treason, we are well into rehearsals for our next production, Holiday Snap, by Michael Pertwee and John Chapman. A traditional farce that the British do so well that will certainly provide our audiences with plenty of laughs.

The photograph below shows some of our women and girl players ready for action on a Wednesday night at Kibworth Mead Academy where ‘Fleckney Spinners Table Tennis Club’ will be playing for the next year or so while Fleckney Sports Centre is demolished and rebuilt. Everyone is welcome to a free session at 7pm on Wednesday nights with coaching a free optional extra.
