Vital Local Dementia Support Service Under Threat

As of 2024 there are estimated to be nearly a million folk living with dementia in the UK, projected to be 1.4 million by 2040. That equates to 7000 new diagnoses a month. It currently takes six months, after GP referral, to get a diagnosis. As many will know this is a debilitating, isolating disease, affecting not only the sufferer but the carers and family around them.

Well a cup of (Fairtrade) Coffee helps the poverty go down...

I was shown a packet of coffee produced by a small family coffee producing business, declaring their four commitments to help their farmers. They buy directly from the farmers; they help their farmers to improve their coffee, some of it meeting Soil Association organic standards. The last two commitments are to improve farmers’ homes and provide health and educational facilities. So why my hesitation about it? And why are they using the system called Enveritas? Only a Few Weeks to the 2025 Blaston Show

This year's Blaston Show is fast approaching. It takes place on Sunday 29 June just outside the village of Slawston, near Market Harborough. Attracting around 5,000 visitors every year, the show has been running since 1957 – and this year, weather permitting, visitors can enjoy a flypast from a Lancaster Bomber.

GEMS Charity Golf Day & Smeeton Open Gardens

Our annual Charity Golf Day this year is Friday 22 August at Glen Gorse Golf Club, Oadby. Teams of 4, £220 per team. This will again include bacon roll, coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf followed by a meal. Afterwards with team and individual prizes. We will also be having a raffle. So if you are able to donate a raffle prize please contact me on my email. I will be happy to collect. This year we are looking for local businesses to have an opportunity to become sponsors for the event.
