Nature Notes - (Re?) Introduction of the White Stork

Recently a White Stork – blue leg ring 38 - spent a few days at Rutland Water. This is a rare species, not to be confused with other large water birds. I have often heard Grey Herons, a widespread British breeding bird, referred to as storks. Unlike the Grey Heron, the White Stork may never have been native to our islands; they have certainly not bred here in living memory - until now.

The Kibworth Art Lovers’ annual exhibition was a particularly enjoyable event this year. Not only had our members been preparing their exhibits, but also baking cakes for our café which proved a popular addition to the exhibition. After months of planning and hours of setting up, we were well rewarded with record sales and a record footfall. We had in excess of 300 visitors, over the weekend.

Colour Dash Charity Run

On Friday 22 May, the school field was transformed into a vibrant explosion of colour as children took part in the Leicester Children’s Holidays (LCH) Colour Dash. Excitement filled the air as pupils eagerly gathered at the start line, ready to race around the track. As they made their way around the course, they were cheered on by staff and friends. While being showered in clouds of bright, coloured powder, creating a truly spectacular and memorable sight.

The Kings Head, Smeeton are hosting a Summer Shindig in aid of GEMS Charity on Sunday 21 June starting at 1pm. It is shaping up to be a fantastic event with a BBQ, Music, Tombola, Plant Sale, Raffle and more.
