With quite a bit to report on this month, I’ll do my best to be succinct.

The inaugural Harborough Half Marathon saw sixteen superb club members complete the challenging course. Steve King came in first for the club (1.32.45), followed by Noel Houlihan (1.34.23), Jack Bowman (1.46.28), Alastair Stewart (1.47.59), Steven Laird (1.57.36), Peter Mather (2.03.29), John Clampin (2:03:04), Pete Bennett (2:09:19) and Vince Brown (2:10:48). Jess Turner was the first woman coming in for the club with a terrific time of 2:14:47, followed by Emily Pierce (2:18:08), Lucy Earland (2:21:44), Aileen Collins (2:21:48), Jo Raine (2:25:46), Andy Kemp (2.40.35) and Verity Catcheside (2.44.21). Well done everyone, and what an excellent turnout. We also had some club members marshalling (not fancying the hills!) for this local event.

The Leicestershire Road Running League (LRRL) races have also seen excellent representation from the club.

At the Watermead 10k Jonny Morgan came in first for the club (43.43), Bethany Walter (47.18) was the first Fleckney & Kibworth woman to cross the line, followed by Bernadette Owen (49.32) who came first in her age category. They were followed by: Jon Cowell (51.31), John Clampin (52.22), Jo Dickens (53.02), Steve West (57.29), Emily Pierce (58.29), Jo Wood (59.13), Dan Pedley (1.00.05), Fawzia Kauser (1.01.43), Gary Lawrence (1.08.32), Ellie Holland (1.12.20), Megan Lloyd (1.23.06) and Tracey Coates (1.23.07). There were several personal bests at this event (exceptional running by Emily) and some personal challenges achieved. We were the only club to have all members staying until the end and cheering all the runners in.

West End 8 saw some flying feet with Steve King coming in at 54.16, Ben Whatton (59.19), Beth Walter (1.04.20), Jo Dickens (1.10.55), John Clampin (1.11.35), Jon Cowell (1.12.10), Peter Mather (1.15.27), Vince Brown (1.17.16), Steve West (1.27.50), Bethany Brown (1.32.40), Fran Gould (1.53.10) and Gary Lawrence (1.53.11).

We had another fantastic turnout at the recent Swithland 6 race in the north of the county. There were some strong finishes, with every member achieving a club standard for their age and gender category. Ben Whatton came home first in a time of 43.03. He was followed by Bernadette Owen (48.17), Jack Bowman (48.44), Jamie Owen (49.32), Pete Bennett (51.10), John Clampin (51.57), Vince Brown (55.25), Emma Boyd (56.24), Fawzia Kauser (59.50), Stephen West (1.00.17), Bethany Brown (1.04.21), Gary Lawrence (1.08.43) and Ruth Hughes (1.22.41).

In other news

Emma Boyd was the club’s representative at the Harborough 5 (part of the East Midlands Grand Prix). On a school night Emma, you did us proud, running home in a time of 46.35. Well done Mrs Boyd! Our very own club chairman Andy Kemp, recovering from injury, volunteered to adjudicate the course for England Athletics.

The OMM Lite fell running event at the Lake District Running Festival, saw Sam Pole on the long course coming at an outstanding 5th position overall, and 4th in his category with a score of 1230 in 11h 41m. The short course saw Adam Niblett in 70th position overall and 35th in his age category with a score of 510 in 8h 34m. Leda Roodbaraky scored 540 in 8h 47m which meant she was 60th overall and an impressive 17th in her category. Excellent fell running folks, generating some excitement for a potential club trip next year maybe.

Further afield Jamie Owen ran the Edinburgh Marathon, in very warm conditions, with an impressive time of 4.32.17. Well done Jamie, fantastic running!

The local Harborough carnival 10k run,

featured Jonny Morgan (56:06) and Gary Lawrence (1:09:57). Gary also represented the club the following day at the Swithland 6. There is no stopping him!

Over the next few months, our fantastic club members will be continuing to compete in the local league. We will be running two charity club night events – running a wonderful local route followed by delicious home cooked food to raise money for charities close to our hearts. We continue to run pub runs, usually monthly, with a run followed by food (again!). All organised by club members, for club members. Many of our members run their own personal challenges and run for fun, fitness and friendship. Our club nights continue on a Tuesday and Thursday, with a regular social run on a Sunday morning. New members are always welcome. We are a friendly, inclusive, welcoming club. You will always have someone to run with on a club night, If you want to find out more check us out on www.fleckneyandkibworthrunners.co.uk/
