Illston-on-the-Hill WI November 2021 update

15th November 2021 | Clubs and Societies

It was such a momentous occasion when Illston on the Hill WI met in October for the very first proper WI meeting this year. We decided to keep it low key, so just enjoyed a very sociable evening with a ‘when we were young’ quiz. We all took a photograph of ourselves as a child. I wonder if there was a reason for all the photographs being black and white! One or two of our ladies didn’t seem to have changed much, but as I only got 3 correct (one being myself,) I think we can confirm most of us had altered – for the better of course. We also had a sales table and items were bought and sold at very minimal prices.

The ‘Churches Together’ Christmas card for 2021 has been lovingly created by Sebby Shelton. Sebby, aged nine, is a member of St Wilfrid’s Church, Kibworth. I’m sure that countless Kibworthians and their children and grand-children will have enjoyed their time at the Village Hall Pre-School. All our best wishes go to Sue, Jackie and Jean and all their staff in whatever they choose to do next.

Kibworth Windmill Update

15th November 2021 | Community

Restoration work on the Kibworth Windmill has continued throughout the last month despite some heavy rain and strong winds. Most of the work to repair the bottom of the main post has been completed. Work has started on parts of the upper levels. New sails and steps are being made at the Bristol workshop of the millwrights, Dorothea Restorations. They will not be brought to Kibworth until all the other work has been completed.

Probably the best coffee in the World at Northern Cobbler!

15th November 2021 | Business

Driving along the B6047, the road from Market Harborough to Melton Mowbray, near to Billesdon I see two large advertising flags fluttering in the wing and pull into Rolleston Lodge. Here, I find Northern Cobbler, a minimalist cafe space with superb coffee and delicious cakes and pastries. Plus if you look over the fence, a great view of Leicestershire. I ask for an Americano, black and no sugar. It is the elixir of life, fortifying one for the next part of the journey.
