If you skim your informative Kibworth Chronicle, you will see that Sustainable Harborough Community has organised a gathering on Saturday 12 November. 1–3 pm near the Old Grammar School in Harborough, to join the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice. The Global Day of Action is being held at the midpoint of the COP 27 UN climate talks. These run from 6- 18 November in Sharm el-Sheikh, hosted by the Egyptian government.

The Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club are staging another Bonfire and Firework Spectacular. Those who have been before witnessed an amazing firework display, put on by the very professional Hi-5 Fireworks company.

Did you know that Unblocktober is a national campaign and awareness month to improve the health of the UK’s drains, sewers and rivers and how we can all help prevent blockages? Sadly last year, Anglian Water had to remove over 3,000 tonnes of wipes, sanitary products and cooking oils from sewers at a cost that is paid for through our bills. Not pleasant for the people removing this mess either.

At just the right time, premises became available right next door to our café (the former Gems charity shop), and the trustees agreed to take on the lease and move the food bank in, so that it could keep operating, after our café was allowed to re-open.

Well, this idea is going to be a reality! Commencing on Monday 31 October, the Welcome Kitchen will open its doors and you, and that means everyone, will be able to join others at Kibworth Grammar School Hall (main hall) for friendship and enjoy a bowl of nourishing soup prepared by our resident cook, Jenny.

The Trustees of the Kibworth Grammar School Hall are delighted to announce that the plans for the redevelopment of the hall and the incorporation of the library have been approved. Phase one of the project has now been completed. Phase two, raising the actual funds for the project, is just beginning. We look forward to updating the Kibworth and District Chronicle readers as to how this exciting project is progressing in the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, we would like to offer our thanks to Nortoft Planning, who have helped us get this far and with whom we look forward to working alongside.
