I do wonder at times, whether everything I read in the newspapers is true. Some time ago it was announced that 80,000 retired Gurkha soldiers were to settle in the United Kingdom in preference to their mountainous home of Nepal. In fact the number turned out to be nearer 10,000.

The trustees of Kibworth Community Hub, Kibworth Community Library and both Beauchamp & Harcourt Parish Councils are pleased to announce they have secured almost £264,000 towards developing the new Community Hub. To be exact, we've secured from Harborough District Council a section 106 grant of £263,953.99p towards the building of the library extension at the Hall.

Next month’s issue of the Kibworth & District Chronicle will be assembled (we call it lay up) on Sunday 12 November, Remembrance Sunday. One of our 200 plus strong team will be joining the Kibworth Band along with the Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Scouting and Guiding groups of all ages in the procession to St Wilfrid’s church - as has happened each year for the last 15 years - where they will lay a wreath on behalf of everyone who reads this publication, and say a prayer of thanks.

Jeff Wayne wrote the melody for Forever Autumn in 1969 as a jingle for a Lego commercial. Whether or not that particular advert was a success Lego is still as popular as ever (with all age groups). The name is derived from two Danish words, leg and godt, which mean play well, something Lego does perfectly. Tiny plastic bricks that can literally build worlds!

It is with great sadness that The Kibworth Band announce the death, just short of his 101st birthday of their President Jack Perbedy. As we wrote in the Chronicle this time last year as he celebrated his 100th birthday, Jack was a Kibworth lad who never forgot his roots. In gratitude and appreciation of his musical start with the Kibworth Band, where he rose from player to conductor in a short period of time, he became a lifelong supporter of Kibworth and many other local bands.

Saturday, 2 September, marked the 100th Village Produce Show in Burton Overy. The village WI started the show in 1923.
