As we come to the end of the year in the library, we are watching our exciting new extension at Kibworth Community Hub take shape at pace. It’s not long since the first spade went into the ground, and we’re thinking already about decorating.

As the festive season approaches, the Kibworth crew is once again embracing the Christmas spirit and is thrilled to announce that Santa and Rudolph will join them for a special tour of the village on Monday 23 December,continuing our jolly annual tradition. The festive parade to raise much needed funds for local charities will start from Kibworth Fire Station at 1800hrs, and we warmly invite you and your family to join in the fun. Whether you walk alongside the crew or cheer from the sidelines, your participation is greatlyencouraged! With a busy few weeks ahead, Rudolph and Santa may need a few mince pies and carrots to keep their energy levels up for the journey. Hurray for Wimbledon (I mean the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, not the town or Football Club)! They are working to make their grass courts and flower beds as sustainable as possible in the way they garden. They’ve given up peat compost and are experimenting with alternatives. Creative Harborough is the town’s philanthropic network of arts and cultural organisations and businesses. They have worked with Harborough District Council and the ‘Market Harborough and The Bowdens Charity’ to facilitate a busking initiative. This aims to make it easier for local artists and young performers especially, to share their talent and animate the town.

It’s over 3½ years since I wrote the first article for the Chronicle about climate change and the challenge it presents, after a powerful presentation by David Ramsden MBE, speaker at the February U3A meeting. David told us about the huge sums of money spent by the main oil companies on anti-climate lobbying policies and the harm yet more oil production was causing. He urged us to take action, if only for the sake of the younger generations.
