At Leicestershire’s Home Library Service we believe that everyone should have access to the joys of reading and the incredible services that our libraries offer. However, we know that for many people with health challenges, limited mobility or caring responsibilities, accessing the local library can be difficult.   This is where the Home Library Service steps in – this FREE service offered by Culture To You at Leicestershire County Council ensures that reading remains accessible to everyone. 

Organised by the Climate Coalition, the ‘Great Big Green Week ‘is a celebration by people all over the country.  It’s taking place this year between Saturday 8 June and Sunday 16 June. The Green Street for local organisations and charities, is returning to the Harborough Carnival on Saturday 8 June too.

In the course of the last century, the RCC has evolved and focuses on many current day issues such as fuel poverty and mental health. As we celebrate a centenary of the charity we are thrilled to announce the Centenary Award 2024 coming in October.

With so many events happening in Smeeton Westerby over the Christmas period, we ended up with a relaxing and quiet January. However, The Kings Head came up trumps with their Burns’ Night Supper on Thursday 25 January where a three course meal was served, the main dish naturally being haggis, neeps and tatties with whisky sauce. There was a variety of whiskies to wash everything down with. Not surprisingly, a great time was had by all.

It's not unusual for street names to be named after prominent members of the community. For instance, Market Harborough has several of these thoroughfares and one example of this is Logan Street off Coventry Road.

Once Christmas commitments have been fulfilled, gardeners traditionally use January and February to plan for the new growing year. In most domestic gardens we are thinking small scale, from microscopic fungi and bacteria that provide healthy soils, through beneficial insects that might be pollinators or pest controllers, on to garden birds which can also help us with pest control.
