The speaker at our February meeting was Julie Harrison who, with the help of her husband Ian, gave us a fascinating talk about their holidays in South Africa. Their love of the country and its wildlife began when friends invited them to stay with them. That first visit changed their lives as they fell under South Africa’s spell and they have returned many times since to the Kruger National Park. Covering an area of more than 19,000 square kilometres, the Kruger has very few fences to restrict the animals’ movements, except small ones around the safari camps where visitors are accommodated.

As a local acupuncturist and Taichi Qigong instructor, I frequently get asked: “What is qi (pronounced chee)?” Here is my understanding after reading the Qigong book written by Peter Deadman (published in 2024).

Artist Bob Morley has been a regular demonstrator for the Kibworth Art Lovers over a number of years, and never disappoints. He began our February meeting, attended by more than thirty of our members, with a presentation of his work, illustrating a wide range of subjects, media and techniques. Bob talked us through his use of watercolour, acrylics, ink and pastels. Giving us several tips for creating various effects. Clingfilm, salt, fine sponges and even a toothbrush are all part of his kit.

Kibworth Scouts go to Westminster Abbey. Thursday 22 February sees scouts and guides celebrate Founders Day or Thinking Day, the shared birthday of Robert Baden Powell and his wife, Olave Baden Powell.

Billesdon Drama Society will be performing ‘Ladies Down Under’ a comedy by Amanda Whittington at
the Coplow Centre, Billesdon on Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 March 2024.

Our Allotments will be ten years old this year and the bare field we started with is now a thriving site for flowers, vegetables, fruit and wildlife.

The Kibworth Art Lovers have been taking a winter break from meetings. But planning has been continuing to ensure an interesting programme of visits from a range of inspiring professional artists. Hopefully, at the same time, our members have been busy painting, sketching and crafting in preparation for our annual exhibition in early June.
