During the lockdown the coaches of the Under 10s at Kibworth Football Club wanted to do something to help the boys stay active, and do something positive for a couple of local charities, (Rainbows and LOROS), through this difficult time for them.
The Challenge.
The challenge was to virtually walk/ run the distance from Land’s End via Kibworth to John O’Groats – 864 miles between them in five weeks! It was a big team effort, with 25 boys and parents getting involved.
Watching the progress with Instagram.
We named the challenge #LeKibworthJog and set up an Instagram page for the team to keep an eye on their progress. Each week one of our coaches, Steve Harrhy, ran a lockdown Zoom training session with all of the boys. He gave them a weekly report on how many miles they had achieved collectively and how much money we had raised. It was a great way to keep in touch with the boys and motivate them to stay active during this difficult third lockdown.
£1600 raised for Rainbows and Loros.
The challenge was completed in four weeks, some days battling the rain and snow. It was a week ahead of target, and walked over 950 miles. We have raised over £1600 for the Rainbows and LOROS charities, and we couldn’t be prouder of the boys.
