LGS Stoneygate Celebrates Official Opening of new Sports Hall

There is a real buzz around LGS Stoneygate with our brand-new sports hall. The four-badminton court hall was formally opened on Monday 18 May. Opened by England’s World Cup winning rugby captain Martin Johnson, it marks a proud and memorable moment for the entire school community.

Pupils, from pre-school age right up to sixteen, have wasted no time making the most of the new facility. They have been able to use it since the beginning of the year. Whether it is fast-paced netball, competitive basketball games or energetic PE lessons, the sports hall has already become a favourite part of the school day for pupils. The bright, modern space offers pupils the chance to develop their skills, try new sports and enjoy being active in an environment designed to inspire confidence and teamwork.

Martin Johnson and his wife Kay, linked as former parents at LGS Stoneygate, added a sense of occasion, inspiring pupils with the story of Martin’s own sporting journey and highlighting the importance of dedication, resilience, and teamwork.

May 2026 also marks 10 years since LGS Stoneygate joined Leicester Grammar School Trust. The opening of the new sports hall represents a significant investment in the school and in the wellbeing and development of pupils, ensuring that sport continues to play a central role in school life. It is clear that the hall will be a vibrant and valued feature for LGS Stoneygate and the wider community for decades to come.
