Girls Win County Cup – again!
On Thursday 23 April, the Y8/9 girls football team travelled to Leicester City’s world class training ground for the County final .
We faced familiar opponents in Uppingham Community College, having previously played them in the National Cup and County Cup final in Year 7.
We knew we were in for a battle.
The pitch was immaculate, the sun was shining, and with a terrific travelling support of KMA parents, the scene was set was for an unforgettable evening of football. KMA began the game brilliantly, and after five minutes, Emilia H made a lovely overlapping run, receiving the ball from Sophie, and smashing the ball with her lovely left foot into the bottom right comer to put KMA 1-0 up.
What a start!
Uppingham responded with large spells of possession, and our goalkeeper Amber performed heroics to keep the score 1-0. However, Uppingham managed to sneak an equaliser from a well worked move, making it 1-1 at half time.
Half – Time
After a tactical switch in formation, KMA came out all guns blazing in the second half Lily, Keisha and Sophie all had close efforts, and Uppingham were struggling to stay on terms. Deservedly, we took the lead through a well worked comer, when Megan crossed the ball brilliantly for captain Lily to smash home from close range.
Uppingham fought back, but Lottie, Charlotte and Lily stood firm to resist their pressure. Not long after, Lily picked the ball up inside , her own half, drove forwards, and then unleashed an unstoppable strike from 30 yards. Our girls closed out the game comfortably, and the final whistle blew, with KMA winning 3-1 and became County champions once again!
This group of girls have now won two County cups whilst at KMA, which is an amazing achievement. They are the most successful football team at the school in recent years, and they have such a brilliant bond and determination.

The trophy presentation involved former KMA student and current Leicester City footballer Will Lawrence, who helped present the girls with their silverware.
The trophy will stand with pride in the PE department, and we look forward to defending our title next year. Squad: Amber G, Luna W, Lily B ( c ), Keisha D, Emilia H, Lottie P, Grace J, Penny C, Erin T, GeorgiaE, Sophie B, Maddy J, Megan B, Charlotte S. Dr Pat Thompson (Vice Principal)
