Right to Roam

right to roam

The recently formed local Leicestershire Right to Roam (R2R) have been busy recently campaigning for greater access for those wishing to walk or swim in and with nature.

The group, based primarily in and around Market Harborough, have taken part in two walks and one swim as part of a national campaign for responsible access to nature.

Currently we enjoy less than 10 % genuine access to the countryside.

We helped to highlight the lack of access to ancient woodland with around a dozen nature lovers walking responsibly in private woodland near Stockerston and only recently half a dozen swimmers were joined by supporters at Anglian Water owned Rutland Water to say “If you can’t keep our rivers clean enough for us to swim in, then we’ll swim in your private bodies of water”.

Both events were full of happiness, joy and well-being as we celebrated nature together.

We are planning another walk/ trespass in June as well as more wild swimming events.

The group also has a Wild Service Book club that meets monthly in Market Harborough. If you’d like to know more, contact r2rleics@gmail.com or What’s App us on 07970 077 254.

Please also look out for the documentary film ‘Our Land’ which is being shown nationally including Leicester, Northampton and Corby. Please also see the website righttoroam.org.uk
